FX Mask Making Class With Rayce Bird

I was very fortunate to have taken an FX mask making class this weekend from Rayce Bird the winner of the Syfy channels season 2 Face Off show. I learned a lot from him and I made some great new friends. It was also fun to listen to some of his experiences from the show. I have added some pictures of the process from sculpting out the design to casting the latex and then final painting.

Zombie Foam Makeup Test

This is my very first attempt at creating a complete foam latex appliance. I really enjoyed the whole process of sculpting, casting the molds and applying and painting the prothsetic. I learned a lot during this first makeup and I am really excited to start a new one.

Chase as a Zombie...

I created this makeup using latex, cotton, hot glue, thread and creme Ben Nye makeup... I first created 3 appliances on a head armature and then applied it to Chase.

Airbrushed face painting....

My little Emma wanted to have her face painted so I tried a makeup using my airbrush...

Created another Zombie Makeup...

I am still learning so this time I created this makeup a little different from what I have done in the past. I created 3 latex prosthetics on a head armature and then removed them and applied them to Josh... it worked better than what I have done in the past.

The Awakening Haunted House

I am sharing some images from the Awakening Haunted House. The Awakening was created by myself, Aaron Woods my brother, Amy Anderson my cousin and her husband Jerry Anderson. The entire project took us about 7 months to set up a business plan, find and secure a location, design and create the haunt, find and train actors.
Creating the Awakening was one of the most challenging and rewarding things I have ever done. I loved working with my brother and cousins on this adventure, none of us had ever done anything like this before and so we all had to learn as we went along. The unique thing about the Haunt is that we did not purchase anything that was already created we hand built the entire haunt. The props, sets, special lighting needs and music which was set up by another uncle Ron Lee were all designed and created for the haunt to create the exact look and feel we were trying to create.
I feel as though we were very successful in creating the haunt, we gained a lot of respect from other haunt owners as well as the customers that went through it. I hope you enjoy some of the pics from the haunt, I placed them in order as you would have seen them going through.
